David Sanborn - The Best of David Sanborn (1994)

David Sanborn (born July 30, 1945) is an American alto saxophonist. Though Sanborn has worked in many genres, his solo recordings typically blend jazz with instrumental pop and R&B.[1] He released his first solo album Taking Off in 1975, but has been playing the saxophone since before he was in high school.[2]

One of the most commercially successful American saxophonists to earn prominence since the 1980s, Sanborn is often identified with radio-friendly smooth jazz. However, Sanborn has expressed a disinclination for both the genre itself and his association with it.

Earl Klugh - The Very Best of Earl Klugh

Earl Klugh (pronounced "Clue") (born September 16, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American smooth jazz/jazz fusion guitarist and composer.

At the age of 13, Klugh was captivated by the guitar playing of Chet Atkins when Atkins made an appearance on the Perry Como Show. Klugh has since been a guest on several Atkins albums. Atkins, reciprocating as well, joined Earl on his Magic In Your Eyes album. Klugh was also influenced by Bob James, Ray Parker Jr, Wes Montgomery and Laurindo Almeida. His sound is a blend of these jazz, pop and rhythm and blues influences, forming a potpourri of sweet contemporary music original to only him.

Klugh became a guitar instructor at the young age of 15, and was eventually discovered by Yusef Lateef. His career rapidly progressed to working with the likes of George Benson, George Shearing, Chick Corea, and many others. Like several other Detroit-bred entertainers, Klugh attended Mumford High School (Michigan).

For their album One on One, Klugh and Bob James received a Grammy award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance of 1981. He has since received 13 Grammy nods, millions of record and CD sales, and continues touring worldwide to this day.

Joe Sample - The Best Of (1998)

Joseph Leslie "Joe" Sample (born February 1, 1939 in Houston, Texas) is an American pianist, keyboard player and composer. He was one of the founding members of the Jazz Crusaders, the band which became simply The Crusaders in 1971, and remained a part of the group until its final album in 1991 (not including the 2003 reunion album Rural Renewal).

Sample began playing the piano when he was five years old. Since the early 1980's, he has enjoyed a successful solo career and has guested on many recordings by other performers and groups, including Miles Davis, George Benson, Jimmy Witherspoon, B. B. King, Eric Clapton and Steely Dan. Although it received less radio airplay than several of his other releases, Invitation is considered by many to be his finest solo recording to date.

Tania Maria (born May 9, 1948) is a Brazilian artist, singer, composer and piano player, singing mostly in Portuguese or English. Her music is mostly vocal, sometimes pop, often jazzy, and unmistakably Brazilian. Whether playing fiery samba, tranquil bossa, funky NYC groove, or any other style, she maintains a style that is unique and instantly recognizable.

Born in Sao Luis, northern Brazil, she has a degree in law, and married early and had children. After attempts to launch a musical career in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Tania moved to Paris in 1974. Discovered and brought to Washington D.C. by Charlie Byrd after a concert in Australia, she has been based in New York since the '80s, best known for her fiery interpretation of Brazilian, Afro-Latin, Pop and jazz fusion. Tania has played virtually every important jazz festival in the world and has appeared on countless television and radio programmes. Tania has recorded 19 albums and in 1985 was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category "Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Female". In 1995 Tania performed at prestigious venues like The Blue Note and famous festivals like Saratoga Jazz Festival, New Orleans Heritage Festival, and has played with such greats as Steve Gadd, Anthony Jackson, Sammy Figueroa and Eddie Gomez.

He was one of the founding members of the Jazz Crusaders, the band which became simply The Crusaders in 1971, and remained a part of the group until its final album in 1991 (not including the 2003 reunion album Rural Renewal). Sample began playing the piano when he was five years old. Since the early 1980's, he has enjoyed a successful solo career and has guested on many recordings by other performers and groups, including Miles Davis, George Benson, Jimmy Witherspoon, B. B. King, Eric Clapton and Steely Dan. Although it received less radio airplay than several of his other releases, Invitation is considered by many to be his finest solo recording to date. Her music is mostly vocal, sometimes pop, often jazzy, and unmistakably Brazilian. Whether playing fiery samba, tranquil bossa, funky NYC groove, or any other style, she maintains a style that is unique and instantly recognizable. Born in Sao Luis, northern Brazil, she has a degree in law, and married early and had children. After attempts to launch a musical career in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Tania moved to Paris in 1974. Discovered and brought to Washington D.C. by Charlie Byrd after a concert in Australia, she has been based in New York since the '80s, best known for her fiery interpretation of Brazilian, Afro-Latin, Pop and jazz fusion. Tania has played virtually every important jazz festival in the world and has appeared on countless television and radio programmes.
